What it is

Microneedling is one of the most effective ways to stimulate the skin's natural healing response — creating thousands of micro-channels that trigger collagen and elastin production deep within the dermis. For menopausal skin, which has seen a significant drop in collagen production due to declining oestrogen, this makes microneedling particularly impactful. Our physician-performed treatments use medical-grade devices with precise depth control, applied to a protocol specifically designed for the fragility of hormonally transitioning skin. Whether your concern is fine lines, skin laxity, enlarged pores, or uneven texture, microneedling offers meaningful, evidence-based improvement — with results that build progressively over time.

How hormones shape this treatment

Oestrogen plays a direct role in collagen synthesis. As levels fall, the skin loses structural support at an accelerated rate — fine lines deepen, skin laxity increases, and texture becomes uneven. Microneedling works by stimulating fibroblast activity, essentially prompting the skin to produce what hormonal decline has reduced. Our protocols for menopausal skin use shallower initial depth settings and longer recovery intervals to account for reduced barrier function and slower wound healing.

What to expect

  1. A skin analysis consultation to assess your skin's current state and suitability for microneedling

  2. Topical numbing cream applied 30–45 minutes before treatment for full comfort

  3. A controlled, methodical pass across the treatment area — typically 45 minutes

  4. Redness and mild swelling for 24–48 hours, followed by a subtle glow as healing begins

  5. Full results develop over 4–6 weeks as collagen remodelling completes — a course of 3 sessions is recommended

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — when delivered by a clinician with the appropriate expertise and device. We use medical-grade equipment with adjustable depth settings and begin conservatively. Menopausal skin has a slower healing cycle, so we space sessions accordingly and adjust intensity based on how your skin responds.

A course of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is the standard recommendation for meaningful collagen remodelling. Some patients see noticeable improvement after one session; the full benefit accumulates over a course. We reassess your skin at each visit.

Expect redness and mild swelling for 24–48 hours — similar to a moderate sunburn. Skin may feel slightly rough or tight as it heals. Most patients are comfortable returning to normal activity (with SPF) the following day.

Microneedling pairs exceptionally well with growth factor serums, hyaluronic acid, or vitamin C applied immediately post-treatment when absorption is highest. We can also sequence it with skin boosters or skin peels as part of a broader skin programme.

Pre-treatment: pause retinoids and AHAs for five days before. Avoid sun exposure and don't arrive with active skin inflammation or a breakout over the treatment area. Post-treatment: no makeup for 24 hours, avoid heat (saunas, exercise) for 48 hours, SPF 50 every day, and no actives (retinoids, AHAs, vitamin C) until redness has settled — typically five to seven days.
